About Blue Roo Theatre Company

The company was founded in 2009 and incorporated and registered as a charity in 2014. Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc. is a not-for-profit independent production company. We provide an essential link between the disability community, the performing arts sector and the broader community. All performers in our productions have a range of abilities, and people of all abilities are welcome.

Blue Roo develops and produces a range of live and digital performing arts that cater to the diverse needs of all abilities, e.g. full-scale theatre, small ensemble melodrama, regional touring, digital productions and inclusive sector knowledge products.

Each Blue Roo production is unique, with original storytelling devised by creatives with disability.

We use an action learning process to empower the performers to develop narrative skills, movement skills, stage skills, problem-solving skills, confidence, self belief and resilience.

An action learning approach is very different from a “one size fits all” approach.

We mentor performers to accelerate their artistic and artistic employment goals.

The performers for Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc. productions come through a range of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers and the general public. Our other projects include working with schools, community groups and participating in significant public events. These projects use the performing arts to enable physical and mental capacity through the learning process and facilitate future artistic employment and social opportunities.

Each project concludes with public performances for targeted local, regional and global community audiences.

Through these projects participants will develop narrative skills, acting techniques and stage craft in a team setting that is safe and engaging. Every performer in our programs will help shape public performances under the guidance of some of the best independent artists and Directors in Queensland.
